Collaboration with Leatherwood

For years, we proudly offered Leatherwood’s Amber Range bass rosin, knowing it was the best existing option for our strings on the market. But a question lingered—could we create something even better? What if there were a rosin tailored specifically to bring out the unique qualities of our strings?

andrew_berlinThe idea sparked conversations with Andrew Baker, the head of Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin. From the start, it was clear that we shared more than just admiration for each other’s products; Tempera Strings and Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin with their innovative approach have a lot in common and share a similar taste. It’s no coincidence that this collaboration felt so natural.

The project gained momentum when the Leatherwood team came to Berlin to host a workshop with Tempera Strings. This hands-on exchange of expertise was an absolute joy, offering us the rare chance to fine-tune a rosin specifically for our needs. - It was exhilarating to collaborate so closely on a key component of the double bass ecosystem—one that directly influences the interplay of bow, string, setup, instrument, and player. Rosin is especially significant because it forms the direct connection between the strings and the bow, translating the musician's intentions into sound.

As we tested the first prototypes, it quickly became clear that there was far more room for improvement than we had anticipated. Each new iteration brought fresh insights as we refined the recipe to perfectly complement our strings.
